  • Happy New Year

    Hello All.

I am off to bed soon. It's been a horrible week with the flu, but I am on the road to recovery. Hence, before my body tells me to fuck off retire for the evening, I would just like to say Happy New Year and speak to you all in 2008.

Oh, and btw, where the heck did 2007 go?

    Have one for me,

  • From the sick bed

As I awoke from my sick bed after a five hour nap, I came up with a poem. And before the batteries run out on my ITouch, I will share it with you. Please bear in mind I have never written a poem before and am also probably delerious.

    Winter's Morning

As the dawn struggled on through cough and wheeze
    And the silent Angel muttered
A faint whisper was heard by the morning breeze
    As the foggy sunshine stuttered
'Tis morning! bellowed the swollen Moon
For no living thing to hear
And the stillness went quiet far too soon.
    'Tis morning again I fear.

    Thank you.

(I know - don't give up my day job).

Off now to quietly die somewhere...

    Hello there.

I trust you all had a good Christmas and the drama and emotional turmoil remained in the TV set. I had a lovely few days, can't believe there's still a few before I have to go back to work. However, I have caught the lurgy and have a crippling sore throat to go with it, so am writing this from my deathbed feeling very sorry for myself. However, I could go back to bed and write it with my new iTouch. Mwahahaha...(I may try that later).

Hubster is off again doing training business, but will be back tomorrow.

Right. Better get to it, have a house to clean (groan - I didn't get that housekeeper after all! )

So, I will leave you with a quiz:

(as soon as I figure out how to embed it)

    And a meme:

Oh! And I also forgot. Following on from a Christmas present, I named a star after one of my cats, who is now famous in the Andromeda system. I hope that in centuries to come when we finally explore the galaxies beyond, they will be forced to say '...you mean you've never been on shore leave to Pippin?'  or 'We are now at war with the colonists of Pippin' or somesuch. Ho hum.

  • Gil's Christmas Meme

    vic019

    1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper, ribbons and bows. If handing to someone personally, then the wrapped presents also go in a gift bag or santa sack.

    2. Real tree or Artificial? Artificial. It looks very real and will last for decades (I'm hoping)! There are enough rotting carcasses of Christmas Trees past in the back of the garden to let us learn our lesson there. Tried to burn one in the fire one year, but it nearly smogged out the whole village.

    3. When do you put up the tree? December 15th, although I usually put it up on 1st December.

    4. When do you take the tree down? Phew, way after New Year! When I get nagged to do it (I like it when the tree is up, I think we should keep it up all year).

    5. Do you like egg nog? Never tried it. I don't even know what's in it! Quick google check

    2 c. cold milk
    2 eggs
    4 tsp. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    Ground nutmeg

Put all ingredients except nutmeg into blender container in order listed. Cove, blend at low speed until smooth. Pour into serving glasses. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Creamy Eggnog: Add 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream to ingredients.

Hmmm - I always thought it was alcoholic. Looks like it maybe quite nice.

    6. Favourite gift received as a child? A Barbie horse. My sister got a Sindy horse the same year and she sat on my Barbie horse, and I was blamed for leaving it on a chair where my sister could sit on it. I also enjoyed getting a HUGE pack of pencil crayons with my name on it every year, as well as my Mandy annual. I wish I still got them.

    mandy1980

My God, I think I actually remember this cover.

     7. Do you have a nativity scene? No, although I do have a Santa candle which I know isnever meat to be lit, but i am tempted every year just to watch Santa's head melt.

    8. Hardest person to buy for? Grandma.

9 . Easiest person to buy for? Orangeblossom and my Dad.

    10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail, but some e-mail if I don't post them on time!

    11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? I have never received a Christmas present I have hated and even if I had, I would never say.

12 . Favourite Christmas movie? Oliver! or The Sound of Music. I know they are not Christmas films per se, but I have only ever seen them at Christmas time.

    Shani Wallis

    13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? About 2 days before the postage deadline.

14 . Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? No.

    15. Favourite thing to eat at Christmas? Christmas Dinner (see below).

    16. Clear or coloured lights? Coloured.

    17. Favourite Christmas song? Stop The Cavalry! by Jona Louey (I know that's spelt wrong, sorry)

    18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Home, sweet home.

    19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeers? Rudolf, Dasher - that's all I can recall without the aid of google.

    20. Angel on the tree top or a star? My hubster's favourite childhood bear, Apricot, always adorns the top of the Christmas Tree.

21 . Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Christmas Day at some point.

22 . Most annoying thing about this time of year? The cold weather, and the procrastination gets worse too with the sound of 'well, it is Christmas' forever ringing in your ears. Before you know it, you've been living in your pyjamas for tree days.

23 . Favourite ornament theme or colour? A nice old fashioned Victorian style frosted glass bauble.

    250px-Christmas_tree_bauble

    24. Favourite for Christmas dinner? Everything you could possibly think of: Turkey, deep fried potatoes, peas, carrots, cauliflower, broccolli, roasted parsnips, sausage, bacon, stuffing, roasted onions, gravy and bread sauce.

    25. What do you want for Christmas this year? A housekeeper!!

    26. Who is most likely to respond to this? Faffa, Miramaze, Soy, maybe Mrs F & Sminchin.

    27. Who is least likely to respond to this? Scrooge McDuck

You Should Have a White Christmas Tree

For you, the holidays represent joy and sprituality.
The true meaning of Christmas is important to you - even if you're not religious.

The holidays are a time of reflection for you.
You like to spend time thinking about what's important in life.

Your white tree would look great with: Bright, bold ornaments

You should spend Christmas Eve watching: The Nativity Story

What you should bake for Santa: Sugar cookies - served up with a tall glass of milk

    Go here, from Subs.

  • Woohoo!!!

    Evening All,

That's it! I'm home for a week and a half of slob, over-indulgence and Christmas cheer. I'm not going anywhere, driving any long distnaces, I am just chilling. Picking up hubster from the airport on Sunday.

The ice is in the glass, the chardonnay has been poured and the pizza is in the oven. The cat's have noticed that something is amiss, I am singing everything I say talking to them more than usual, and Po can smell melting cheese.

And, in the words of Rudyard Kipling (almost), if you can keep your head whilst all about are losing theirs then you have survived Sainsbury's on a Friday night before Christmas. Madness! But kept my head I did, whistling jingle bells all the way round.

I trust that everyone else is having a pleasant evening?

    Gil xx

PS I apologise in advance if anyone is eating...

  • Roundabouts & Swings

    Hi there.

Well, as usual, we have left the Christmas shopping to the last week. Ahh! The kids are (almost) taken care of, which is the main thing, but there's still a lot of Internet business to get through! The tree is up, although it only has lights and a few decos on it, and the sherry has been breached. Still don't feel that Christmasy though, never usually do these days.

However, just before my visit to Worcestershire last week, we had our Christmas Party at work, the theme being Heroes and Villains. I have to admit, our compnay far exceeded any other in the dress up stakes. We had a Mrs Incredible, three priates, Lizzie Bennet & Mr Darcy, Dick Whittington, Batgirl, Bonnie & Clyde and even a Darth Vader! The best outfit of the night was, however, someon who cam as Superted. Kudos. Hubster and I went as Mulder and Scully (see below) complete with badges (e-bay) and old 90s mobile phone. I even got a small gold cross from Argos for £7.49.

Hubster is back off again after just getting back from a gruelling week of timezone shifting but is back on 23rd. He has finally managed toget to Vegas, but ashe only had 10 hours there in which to sleep, didn't see a thing! Shame, although I've heard that one or two nights is enough ;)

So - a slow dull week at work, I expect, awaits for us all until the holiday mood kicks in.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

  • Cheer and Indexed

    Hi.

To cheer myself up from the obvious oncoming black mood (I think it is actually subsiding now, though - see last post) I have cheered myself up with a cartoon strip from the Indexed site.

  • Wrong town

To every single listing site which notes my new dentist as being in the wrong town with the wrong postcode I award this angry face:

    Face-Angry
For I had an appointment and obviously couldn't find it. And I have a small absess. Stupid sites. May all the people who work at
accessplace thomsonlocal and townpages learn how to type properly. They all suck.
