There's so much to do
@ 10/05/2008 – 15:19:31
There's so much to do. I can't beilieve it is 4pm already. Yesterday, I drove to Peterhead and back. Where is Peterhead, I hear you cry? A bloody long way from Edinburgh, that's where. I was knackered and I think on the way home it was the closest I ever got to falling asleep at the wheel. Don't worry - I would have pulled over if it was that bad, but man, was I tired.

When in foreign parts, always take a pic by the beach. This is the lighthouse. Not much of a beach there - it's a big shipping harbour.Anyway, cleaned kitchen and hallway and done some hardcore gardening (well, what I call hardcore gardening) and got thorned to death for my troubles. I started to do the other side of the garden (more like clearance to start with) but the third thunder storm has hit and damn it all if I'm not going to come in and have a glass of wine. No! Have to go to the shops first for some milk and bread. Dammit. Shame the sunshine has gone, but it's still boiling out there.
Here's my rosebush wound. I removed the plaster just for you.
By the way there are a lot of people in Scotland with bright red faces this week.

Work, Peep Show and Mint
@ 05/05/2008 – 07:05:42
Why am I up on a Bank Holiday Monday? In the sunshine? Well, I am working
but I shall be talking the radio in and putting my roof down on the drive in as well. But it's not so bad. I am downloading Peep Show Series 4 on itunes and have mowed the lawns and done 8 loads of washing this week-end, chores have been done aplenty. I wrote a letter that is 6 months overdue, tidied the lounge (also an overdue task) and made the best vindaloo in the world. Ever. From scratch. Actually, I should have got Noris Mcwherter round.
Coffee - shower- out. Right. Better get dressed between 'shower' and 'out'. It's only fair.
Peep Show quotes:
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And even if it is broke, just ignore it and maybe it'll be sort of OK. Like the environment."
"It's alright Jez, use your woman as a shield!""Jesus Jeremy, that's the Post you've set fire to, the Royal Mail! That's like burning a swan!"

So glad they keep making these.
In other news, I have planted some herbs, and they're in the conservatory. Hoping that all turns out good. Water and sunlight, that's all they need, right? Mint's a very thirsty plant. I don't know what I'm saying now, I haven't had enough coffee yet. I'd better get going...

Embracing the recycling revolution
@ 03/05/2008 – 15:44:38
Hi there,
It's been a hard struggle to get Hubster and I to embrace the carbon footprint awareness message, so for fear that my garage turns even more into a landfill site (although we are supporting a civilisation of small mammals in there) I have created a 'recycling corner' in my kitchen. Glass bottles are being retained as is all cardboard, paper and tin cans (the latter appear to dominate the collection, I have to say). I even went the whole hog, being inspired by my ever environmentally-friendly sister (she even buys that eco washing up liquid stuff) to get a compost bin thing for the kitchen for all the scraps. Polo was particularly distressed to see it arrive as he thought that he fulfilled that function quite nicely.
The upshot is that I may or may not be saving the planet, but I do feel better about myself.
My Dad has never, in all the 50 years that he as lived at his home, put a rubbish bin out. He recycles everything. He even brings things back from the recycling centre. Like front doors. My question is - is there anything you can't recylcle? Apparently not.
Don't throw those old tin cans away - make an amusing and horrendously scary-looking clock with razor sharp edges for your small child....
Ho hum. Gil x
